Founder brand
The practice of making the founder’s face, story, and point of view the thing a market remembers, on the logic that people trust a person faster than they trust a company. Below roughly $5M in revenue the founder is already the main sales and marketing channel, so a founder brand systematizes what’s happening anyway: a founding story, a narrow niche, real stories from real client work, and a consistent presence where buyers already are. It’s measured by the conversations it starts, not the likes it collects. For WPH, Richard’s visibility is what makes the named audience of a few hundred remember the firm before anyone needs to hire.
Source: Dave Gerhardt, Founder Brand (2022) — Gerhardt argued that a founder’s personal brand is a small company’s most under-used channel, and laid out the operating manual: founding story, narrow niche, name the villain, one-liner, consistent cadence, and measurement by pipeline conversations rather than vanity metrics.
