Referral engineering

Treating referrals as a deliberate, engineered motion — a specific, named ask made on a schedule — rather than a happy accident you wait for. The research is lopsided: most professional-services buyers are very willing to refer, yet the large majority are never actually asked. Engineering referrals means naming the target account, choosing the advocate best placed to open it, and making the ask small enough that a yes is a two-minute favor. For WPH, the three on-record advocates are dramatically under-used if they only ever supply testimonials.

Source: Hinge Research Institute referral research — buyers mostly find new firms by asking someone they trust, and while roughly 69% are willing to refer, nobody asks about three-quarters of the time (INDUSTRY). The takeaway: referrals are demand you leave on the table by not requesting them.
